Strip foundation

A foundation is the foundation of a structure that transfers static and dynamic loads to the ground caused by the movement of superstructures, people, wind, water, vehicles, and equipment. A well-designed and properly installed foundation will take all loads and transfer them to the soil, preventing subsidence and collapse of the building. This is achieved through carefully thought out distribution of loads over the entire area of the foundation, excavation of the soil, piling, reinforcement of the upper weak layer, etc. The design and installation of a turnkey foundation simply needs to be done. carried out by professionals. The price of the strip foundation and the work of the professionals are well rewarded for long-term trouble-free operation.

Depending on the design, foundations can be classified as columnar, tape, block, pile, or slab types. They all differ in execution technique, amount of consumables, and consequently cost. The simplest is a columnar structure. They are inexpensive and can be installed quickly without too much effort. As a rule, columnar foundations are used for light buildings without basements. Various types of strip foundations are most often used in individual construction. Compared to other types, strip foundations are more expensive, but at the same time offer high strength, reliability and long life.

Types of strip foundations

These structures are installed in the form of closed contours along the perimeter of the structure’s bearing walls to evenly distribute the load. The design is distinguished by maximum cost and versatility of application. These foundations can be placed on almost any building: wooden, brick, block, one-story, multi-story. These types of foundations are most often used for the construction of individual buildings, country houses, cottages and summer cottages. When arranging a basement or basement, this design will serve as walls for these rooms, thus saving on the cost of walls.

There are the following types of strip foundations:

  • Monolithic. As a rule, at the heart of such designs is a rigid reinforcing cage filled with concrete. The cost of such foundations is higher compared to other types. But it is the strongest and most durable.
  • Had made. It can be made by fixing separate blocks or slabs into a single braid with strong wire and cement mortar. This design is called a tape block or tape plate. The price of such a base will be the same as the price of a tape monolithic base.

Strip foundations can be shallow or deep, depending on the installation depth of the structure. The price for installing the structure in this case depends on the depth of the foundation. The depth of the foundation is determined by the bearing capacity of the soil and the magnitude of the expected loads. A shallow depth is sufficient for wooden houses and other light structures. It is recommended to install heavy brick houses and monolithic structures on a recessed base. Also, if the soil is heaving, the foundation must be built deeper, increasing the total cost of the turnkey strip foundation.

The width of the foundation is designed considering the planned load and the width of the bearing wall. As a rule, it should be at least 100 mm greater than the wall thickness. It may also be made with a wider base for added stability. The cross section of this design is trapezoidal. Strip foundations are more expensive, but the foundations can withstand heavy loads and last longer.

The tape base height must be at least twice the width. This reduces lateral loads and prevents deformation of the foundation. Reinforced ribs reduce vertical and horizontal loads. Ribs improve adhesion between metal and concrete. When laying the strip foundation, special attention should be paid to the reinforcement of the corners, as they receive the greatest load. Therefore, the cost of installing a strip foundation depends not only on the amount of concrete used, but also on the price of reinforcement.
